Stay Alert for Rogue Traders – Protect Yourself and Your Home

We’d like to remind all residents to remain vigilant when approached by unexpected callers offering services, repairs, or ‘special deals’ at the doorstep. Rogue traders often target households by offering work such as gardening, roofing, driveway cleaning, or repairs that you haven’t requested or planned for. 

These individuals can be very persuasive, but their work is often substandard, overpriced, or left incomplete — and in some cases, they may not carry out any work at all.

Key things to remember:

  Do not agree to any work on the spot.  - Reputable tradespeople will never pressure you into immediate decisions. 

  Never allow cold callers into your home. - Keep your door closed and speak through a window or door chain if needed. 

  Take time to plan any work or services.  - Always get several quotes and use trusted, well-reviewed, or recommended traders. 

  Say NO politely and confidently.  - You are not obliged to open the door or engage with anyone you are unsure about. 

  Don’t be pressured by offers of “cheap today-only deals.”  - Rogue traders often create a false sense of urgency to rush your decision. 

  Report suspicious activity.  - If you feel unsafe or believe a rogue trader is operating in the area, contact us. 

Being cautious helps protect not only you, but also your neighbours, especially vulnerable residents who may be more at risk.
